THE ELMS
This striking glass box extension, located in Sevenoaks, Kent, is a showcase of sleek modern architecture and precision glazing. Our team was appointed to supply and install the full glazing system, including the sliding doors and structural glass elements that define the clean, open-plan aesthetic of the space. The goal was to create a seamless transition between indoors and outdoors, while keeping the focus on light, space, and minimalist design.
At the heart of the extension are the Cortizo slimline 20 sliding doors, selected for their ultra-slim sightlines and smooth operation. These high-performance aluminium doors allow for expansive glazed areas with minimal visible frame, creating uninterrupted views of the garden and a sense of complete openness.
A key architectural feature of this project is the floating corner configuration, where two sliding doors meet at a corner with no fixed post. When opened, this design removes any physical barrier between the interior and exterior, giving the extension a true indoor-outdoor feel and offering maximum flexibility in how the space is used.
All glazing was specified as full height, extending from floor to ceiling to maximise natural light and enhance the visual impact of the structure. The installation also included a level threshold, with the sliding door track flush with both the internal and external floor finishes. This detail not only reinforces the clean, minimalist look but also ensures ease of movement and accessibility.
The aluminium frames were finished in RAL 9005 Matt Black, a bold and timeless choice that adds contrast and sophistication to the glass-dominated design. The matte finish gives a refined, contemporary look while remaining durable and low-maintenance.
The completed glass box extension is a masterclass in modern glazing, combining technical precision with elegant design. The use of slimline sliding doors, floating corner detailing, and level thresholds creates a seamless connection to the outdoors and transforms the living area into a light-filled, functional showpiece.
